My name is Laurie Delaney. I'm 26 years old and have been writing for as long as I can remember. When I was a child, my brother would come up with a story idea, and ask me, ??and then what happened?? By first grade I was writing stories with him and on my own, and by fifth grade, it was all I wanted to do. I grew up in Essex, Vermont, and moved to Colorado when I was 18. I graduated six months early. No cap and gown, no class ring, I simply stepped out the door, glanced, back, shrugged my shoulders and said, ??That??s it then.? I left Vermont a week later and never looked back. I believe it??s true that many writers have a love/hate relationship with the place they grew up, and I am no different. Much of what I write about comes from the struggles of small town life. The life of little suburban blocks where everyone knows everyone else??s secrets, and everyone keeps silent. Most everyone in a small town has something to hide. No one wants to speak out against the kid up the block who??s beaten, or the father who touches his children at night. Speaking up means someone might take a closer look at your own family, and no one wants that. I enjoy writing about what goes on behind those locked doors, the dirty little secrets hiding in the seemingly dull suburbs.
I've had my work published on a few small time writing web sites (www.thewritegallary.com www.urbis.com. I've also done some reviews for www.fmsound.net and for a while wrote the front page every week.
I'm currently working on an a novel called 21 Grams, and am hopeful that I can connect with fellow writers to help me improve the concept. I'm also trying to find writers who would like to work on a new concept. A novel put together by several writers where a different writer playing a different character writes each chapter. If you'd like to know more, please feel free to contact me.
On November 1, 2006 my brother Sean committed suicide. His dream was to be a writer, and his passion flooded me with the desire to create for as long as I can remember. Since his death, my desire to rekindle my passion for writing has been lit. A flame that was becoming dim has been splashed with gasoline from the suffering of the loss of my brother, my hero, my best friend. There is a poem I have posted called Breath. It is about finding his body. While the pain of his death is something I carry with me daily, I hope to turn it into an engine that will drive my passion for the printed page again.
I dedicate everything I write to him.
