My novel, Mission, is set in eastern kenya. Its five characters interact via a series of events of whichthey are all a part. They share different relations of power and influence. The book examines their motives, personal, cultural, religious and economic. Effectively, they are all seen to be acting out of self-interest, but these are interests that can be manipulated to advantage.
I was born in 1952 in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, UK, and spent my first ten years in Sharlston, then a mining village, followed by eight in Crofton, a mile nearer Wakefield. I went to London University, where I obtained a BSc from Imperial College and a PGCE from King's. After two years as a VSO in Kenya, I taught in London for 16 years and devoted much of my spare time to assisting an NGO concerned with development and human rights. After completing an MA in 1992, I worked in Brunei technical education until 1999. I then worked in Zayed University in the United Arab Emirates for three years. Since 2003, I has lived in Spain, and have completed a PhD in educations role in Philippine development and my first published novel, Mission.
