Shouldnâ??t biographies be written by someone else? Oh well, yet another example of how the meaning of a word morphs.
I am a poet who uses any form, which is merely a vehicle, like a car, to get from one place to another. Iâ??m not obsessed with new and uncharted territory so much as discovering the geode in the rock Iâ??ve held in my pocket since childhood. Iâ??ve used lots of poetic forms, driven many cars, but when the rubber hits the road you should be able to smell it burn if youâ??re writing on the edge.
A note on genres: they can be prisons that humiliate a writer or places from which prison bars are broken and doors opened. Its good to know the rules of form. Better yet to know and, if necessary, reject anything that hinders the power of life in our words.
