Stephen A. Halkovic III was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was taken to Bloomington, Indian, by his parents when he was 14 months old when his father was accepted to Indiana University for a PhD program studying Mongolia.
Here Stephen grew-up in this 'Ivory Tower' of academia, and as a young man found himself chocking on this spoon. A overly-sensitive hyper-creative loner he found himself dropping out of school and writing poetry under the guise of a destructive crush. A high-school friend asked him to read at a local poetry reading, the 'blast poets', Stephen decided at the last moment to do a performance piece without any words at all.
This lead to a few other venues in Indiana and some pieces published in various local publications. Then to Chicago. 300 plus appearances and over a thousand spontaneously composed pieces in a year Stephen became shy again and turned away from the stage.
In Chicago he was also published in a few regional publications and wrote press releases for a gallery owner. He left when his mother was recovering from breast cancer, and a year later retreated to Santa Monica, California.
Currently he is living in Athens Georgia, cooking for a living and resigned to the fact that he is a poet after writing at least one poem a day for well over a year.
