My entire life I have experimented with ways of creative expression. Visual art, body movement and music were always the obvious methods to me, for which I had training and tutoring that left me, well, proficient. Journaling and writing were pastimes. Eventually I recognized it as my chosen, most powerful, at least the most emergent form of creation I could get along with. Teachers' attempts to teach poetic forms, story arcs, inverted checkmarks and the like have bombarded me for years, some of their techniques have settled in, I am not sure which. Soon I graduate from UC Berkeley with a BA in English, and I have one thing to say: "Forget your B+, Bharati Mukherjee, I wish you had given me a C-!"
