I have always found my solace from the harsh, cruel world in reading and writing. In the first grade, I wrote a three page story about a fox and a princess, and have not looked back since. To me, writing is a wondrous thing, where you create your own world, and rule over the people you create. You are God of your own writing. I hope to someday publish some of my work and share with the world the people and places I have created, so they in turn might find some peace in a not-so-imaginary world.
I am only four-teen, however, and many people underestimate me for my youth. I am not preaching on how I am wise beyond my years, mature, or talented, I am only saying I have experience in the world of writing. I have participated in the Promising Young Writer’s program, I have won author of the month at my school on numerous occasions, and I have partaken in several writing classes. Though my list of credentials is short, it is still there, and I imagine that’s more than many youth my age can say. That I am grateful for.
I have two reasons I am joining this website. One is because I am looking into publishing a manuscript I have recently finished, and in order to make my query letter impressionable I wanted to try my hand at entering short story contests to see if I might beef up my credentials. The other reason I am here is to have my work slammed on, disgraced, and very harshly critiqued, so that I may grow as a writer.
Lastly, I would like to say that I do not hope to get published for the money—it’s the recognition I’m after.
